I had the honour of re-creating Kaitlin’s mother’s wedding dress for her.  It always amazes me how little it takes to completely transform a dress to make it modern.  We removed the outdated sleeves and high lace neckline and used some of the lace to make those stunning off the shoulder straps.  A little crinoline was added to the skirt and that was pretty much it.  Also, if you are looking for wedding invitations Kaitlin is the mastermind behind Flourish and Quill Paper Co.  You should definitely check her out.

Emily wore her re-designed mother-in-law’s wedding dress for her June wedding.  We cut down the neckline, used lace from the sleeve to lengthen the bodice from an empire waist to the natural waist and re-draped the back ‘cape’ to a pleated design feature.  We also added new lace scallop along the hemline and thin floral trim for straps.  We were able to completely transform the dress to make it exactly what Emily was looking for.  Photo on the right is the before.

One of my favourite things to do is rework a mother’s gown to make it modern again.  Elisa’s dress was perfect for her, after a few tweaks of course.  We removed the outdated sleeves, lowered the neckline and repurposed some lace from the sleeve to make the torso longer for Elisa.  We also added some new lace to the hem to add length as Elisa was taller then her mother.  I love how this look came together for Elisa not to mention how special it is to be able to wear your mother’s wedding dress on your wedding day and still have it be your own dream dress!

Believe it or not Kylie actually wore her mother’s wedding dress for her wedding.  It looks a little bit different then when her mom wore it but I love the idea of wearing your mom’s dress if it is possible.  When Kylie’s mom wore the dress it had a high neckline with full length sleeves.  For Kylie we cut the neckline down to make it more modern and those full length sleeves became lace off the shoulder straps.  We also added a little gold satin ribbon to the waist to tie in the wedding colours.  The skirt stayed exactly the same, the lace just needed a little bit of repair.
